Tjukurpa Tjutaku (Every Ones Dreaming Stories)

Tjukurpa Tjutaku concerns the painting of canvas diary covers, or production of other art products, in return for assistance from Waltja's emergency relief fund (ERF). Waltja provides sewn blank canvas diary covers, paints and brushes to those wanting to help themselves in time of finanical difficulty. When they return with the finished product all are given the same level of financial assistance regardless of artistic skills, experience or merit. This concept has been widely accepted by our members and has already assisted 800 indigenous people to overcome emergency situations while stranded in Alice Springs. Some of the members, who are well-known artists and could produce works for sale to galleries for high prices, strongly support the concept and equity of this project, and benefit from it, because they understand the broad family and community benefits it provides.

In addition to the Diary Cover Project, Waltja has worked intensively over many years to develop appropriate technologies to record stories, provide meaningful training and record vision statements for Indigenous participants and services. The strategic planning process is one usually dependent on literacy skills. Waltja incorporates visual and oral methodology to ensure the practices and understanding are true to traditional culture and lore. The outcomes of this innovative process are often large canvas stories painted by the women involved, and provide visual strategic plans that can be displayed to everyone to remember.

By purchasing these Diary Covers you will help assist further with our Emergency Relief Fund to buy more supplies and continuing helping families the with shelter, food, clothing. fuel and the opportunity to create their own immediate income.
