Disability
Operations and Brokerage
Waltja works to support people with a disabitlity, living in remote communities, to be active members within their own community.
Waltja receives funding from the NT Department of Health and Families to operate the Disability Operations and Brokerage program. This program helps the aged and people with a disability to live on their communities with the best possible level of care and services. Waltja staff work closely with members of the Remote Areas Disability Brokerage Committee, which comprises representatives from the Western and Central Desert communities that Waltja services.
During the year Waltja's Disability and Aged Care staff visit communities in
Waltja's service area to profile the needs of people with a disability and
their carers. Referrals, information and support are provided to help people
in remote communities live as well as they can. The Remote Areas Disability
Brokerage Committee also considers requests for support for minor services
or equipment when this is not available from other sources.
