Child Rearing Research Projects

These programs research traditional models of child rearing in Aboriginal culture. The aim of the program is to find better ways to adapt Western models of child rearing to Traditional Aboriginal practice.

Waltja’s staff have conducted extensive research and observation of daily child rearing practices among families on remote Central Australian communities. Some of the results of this research has now been published (see below).

Waltja has also received some funding to undertake research specifically with men to establish their traditional and current roles in child rearing.

Waltja will also be undertaking workshops with 2 remote Western Australian communities to provide them with assistance, advice and support for the establishment and operation of their own community based child care services.
