Waltja is an incorporated Aboriginal Association based in Alice Springs. Our aim is to provide support services to families on remote communities throughout the region. Our objectives include the addressing of social, emotional and well being issues including substance abuse, child protection, violence, health and safety. We seek to assist the communities in developing a capacity for self-management and self-determination.

Our 36-page colour magazine The "Family News" is produced approximately five times per year and is distributed free of charge to all communities in our region. The "Family News" not only gives the communities an outlet for their news and a voice for their concerns; it provides a means of effectively disseminating vital information on the issues affecting community life.

The "Family News" is a resource for remote families who often have trouble accessing the services and facilities that most people in the Territory take for granted. Naturally funding for a project like this is always a problem.

One way we can try to cover some of the costs is to encourage interested individuals and groups to subscribe to the "Family News". This will help us to continue to produce a quality product, and keep our subscribers in touch with the grass root concerns of community families.

For further information about the "Family News", please contact our Public Relations Unit on (08) 8953 4488 or email publications@waltja.org.au
