Outline of Waltja's Training and Assessment Strategy
Waltja Tjutangku Palyapayi Aboriginal Corporation is committed to the delivery of training services which will increase Aboriginal employment, self-determination and community development in remote communities of Central Australia. We can assist with training needs analysis, the development of Community Training Plans, accredited training within our scope of registration, community workshops and mentoring. We advise communities about funding support for training and can help to prepare funding submissions.
Waltja creates a Training and Assessment Strategy for each new training program. The T&A Strategy provides information to corporate clients and funding bodies about the protocols, content, delivery methods and costs of our training and assessment services. The items marked with an asterisk are also provided to prospective program participants.
The Training and Assessment Strategy consists of the following documents:
- Outline of Waltja's Training and Assessment Strategy (this document)
- Welcome to Waltja Training
- Waltja Training & Assessment Support* (information provided to all learners on enrolment)
- Waltja RTO Code of Practice* (updated annually)
- Summary of course content and units of competency as per Training Package*
- Trainer and Assessor Guide (specific to program/qualification)
- Delivery resources list (equipment, facilities, handouts)
- Quote letter (if fees to be charged)
- Record of Stakeholder and Client Consultation (includes evidence of need/interest in the training program).
Waltja's training delivery is designed in consultation with intending participants, community services and employers. Waltja's training delivery methods are mixed mode, combining:
- Workshops bringing learners together in the community or in regional location
- One to one training focusing on specific needs of the learner, in their community, with trainer and/or learning mentor
- Workplace-based training for individual learners or small groups, with learning goals linked to specified job-skills
- Employee induction and work experience training, with learning goals linked to volunteer or new employee placement in the community services sector.
- Learners may access training information and support electronically, and may submit work for assessment through the Waltja learner support website (http://www.waltja.org.au/nintirripai).
Waltja strives to provide training that is convenient (offered at a time and place to suit the learner), accessible, learner-centred, relevant and technologically appropriate (http://www.waltja.org.au/web/index.php/training-2/student-information/).
Wherever possible, Waltja's training delivery will be supported by a Nintiringtjaku worker – a paid local Aboriginal facilitator. Ninitringtjaku workers support visiting trainers by:
- Helping to organize meetings and plan community visits
- Talking up the training, encouraging community engagement
- Standing up with the trainers, introducing them
- Making sure everybody understands: interpreting, helping people to ask questions and to share knowledge
- Giving advice to trainers on appropriate presentation
- Helping to get community feedback about the training.
See Waltja website http://www.waltja.org.au/default/Nintiringtjaku.html for more information on how Nintiringtjaku work enables senior Aboriginal people to support good training and research on their communities while gaining skills, accreditation and fair pay for their work.
Waltja will create a Memorandum of Agreement with each corporate client of our training services, mutually negotiated and based on the Training and Assessment Strategy containing the documents noted above.
