'Doing Good Work with Families'

FN57-Lauren-SherryJessica Muir interviews Lauren Fyfe about what it means to be an administration officer/receptionist!

What do you like about being a Waltja worker?
What I like the most is learning new things, meeting new people, answering phone calls and paying tax invoices.

What made you want to work for Waltja?
Before starting at Waltja I always wanted to work for an aboriginal organisation and help those who are in need. I like that we are not town-based all the time, we sometimes go out camping for directors meetings or AGM’s. I love seeing different lands and their layouts, I am always happy to meet families that live in those communities. I was really happy when I got accepted into Waltja’s team/family and made a lot of new friends while being here.

Do you like training new staff? If yes, why?
Yes, I like to be able to share what I have learnt and show new staff how to do my job. I like to show people what I have learnt about Waltja since I have started working here, such as; Administration work, book keeping and accounts, how to help people who come into Waltja and how to direct queries and where to file things.
In time they will get an idea of everything I have shown them and they will no longer need my help. The last few months I have started training Sherry Lowah and we enjoy working together.
