September 2014 – Family News 57
The last few months have been incredibly busy for Waltja!
We have been finishing some of our programs and writing up reports for them.
It’s also been the time to write submissions to secure some new program funding. Waltja has already been notified of new funding in several important areas. We are very proud that our hard work has been recognised and our communities will benefit from new funding.
We have had several Executive meetings, a Directors meeting, an exciting camp out to celebrate culture, an Aged and Disability workshop, NAIDOC celebrations and involvement in a whole range of community programs. Thank you to all the members and Directors who give their time voluntarily to Waltja and to speak up for their family and community groups. The staff have done an amazing job supporting them to attend meetings and to be involved in Waltja work.
As we go to print we are preparing a site visit from our Auditor, Brian Tucker to check our financials for the past 12 months and to prepare our reports for funding bodies and ORIC. We also have all the Directors in for a meeting next week, which will be excellent timing as the Indigenous Governance Awards judging panel will also be
here. It’s all happening at Waltja! Even if we don’t win it’s a great acknowledgement of the Waltja Way of working and the good governance from our Directors. Thank you all for partnering with and supporting Waltja.
Hopefully we will see many of you soon at the next Directors meeting in October or later when the AGM takes place, probably in November.
