Waltja 2014 Annual General Meeting and Directors Meeting was held at a bush camp near Yuelamu on the 14th and 15th October. April, Irene, Wendy and Rachel wrote this story together:
That was a good AGM. We had a good time together. We had elections and we had good meetings about young people, disability and money management. The staff did a good job in the workshops and looking after everybody.
The traditional owners welcomed us to their country. They showed ladies around and took us hunting in different directions. It was good that we had elders from Yuelamu come out each day, and also elders Coral Gallagher and Maggie Ross from Yuendumu and May Ryder and Molly Presley from Willowra.
Areyonga ladies made bush medicine and shared it with the other ladies. Sandra Windy won the damper making competition.
Yuelamu is a good community. The community people organized demountable toilets and cleaned the ground. We got water and supplies from Yuelamu each day. The riverbed was just so nice, sleeping under the stars.
Thanks to Michael Tommy for giving us permission to camp near Yipi Dam, and thanks to all the Yuelamu ladies for making us so welcome.
