In 2014 Waltja was awarded the Reconciliation Australia Indigenous Governance Award for the best governed indigenous corporation in Australia. Chair of the judging panel Mick Dodson said Waltja has been doing good governance for a very long time, keeping culture at the the heart of our work. He said “Waltja is one of the best organisations I have encountered: the best in Australia.”

It was a really good experience for Waltja to apply three times, be shortlisted one time, a finalist two times and the winner the third time. We learnt a lot about ourselves and we met up with other amazing Indigenous organisations. This award only comes around once every two years.
Ask your members and staff what makes your organisation stand out, and what makes everybody proud. And don’t be afraid, have a go!
