'Doing Good Work with Families'

A few students from as far as USA, Ireland and Sydney joined Waltja staff on an overnight sleepout on the outskirts of Papunya Community…. Third year University of Sydney students doing the R.A.R.E Entrepreneurship course this semester were able to choose Waltja as their assignment. Some looked at researching and presenting tourism opportunities and others looked at Art Enterprise and explored entrepreneurial ideas. “So we packed our swags, tucker and belongings and set off from Alice Springs and headed out west along Larapinta Drive. Heading towards Glen Helen, we stopped for a bite to eat at the resort. After the meal we headed uphill to the Mt Sonder lookout and stared at the magnificant scenery. We drove on the rough dirt track heading towards the community. When we arrived at Papunya, Isobel Gorey (Waltja director) showed the students around. In the meantime Kevin and Lenny collected some wood for a woodfired supper of roo tails and pasta. The students enjoyed the meal and later they sat down with Isobel who talked about her country and stories of the old ways. The next morning we packed up all of our belongings and headed back to Alice Springs. The students were happy with the trip! https://sydney.edu.au/business/industry-and-community/community-initiatives/ remote-and-rural-enterprise-program.html
