'Doing Good Work with Families'

On Wednesday October 1st, the Tangentyere Women’s Group organised a community day to promote health and wellbeing on the town camps in Alice Springs. They were particularly focussed on the theme of homes  and communities being safe and happy places in which to live. As well as being a fun carnival type day with lots for the children to enjoy, they also invited other support services to join with them and promote the work they do.

Within that context, Central Australian Affordable Housing joined in the day offering a maintenance desk for town campers to report any jobs that required attention, our information brochures and a very popular painting activity. Participants were asked to paint on a large tile what reminded them of a safe and happy home. Children especially entered this activity with great enthusiasm. We now have some wonderful paintings that will brighten up our office. The day was most enjoyable for us in terms of informal and happy times spent with some tenants and their children and also a great networking opportunity with other service providers.

We especially wish to thank  our staff member Deb Lally for teaming up with Waltja,  for  Waltja’s willingness to lend us their shade tents and also to Lenzo who was able to take some great photo’s of the day.

This provided a great teamwork activity for our own staff who were rostered on throughout the day, ably led by the tireless work of both Deb Lally and Sue McGregor.
