Photography, Journalism and video filming
Charmaine Ingram and Naithan Wiles from ABC Open have been teaching Waltja’s Art and Publications/ Multimedia team about photography, journalism and video filming. This training was organised by Jane Clark to give the Multimedia team a chance to develop more skills, which will help them to produce better quality photos and videos for Waltja’s website, Family News etc.
The training will also help with developing their skills in interviewing and journalism to get news stories and information for artist’s profiles etc.
In the first lesson the team went out to Wiggly’s waterhole to take photos for an ABC Open project called ‘Snapped water’. In another lesson they got to learn how to adjust the shutter speed settings on the camera to take photos where there is movement and the aperture setting to make the object or person stand out clearly in the photograph.
During another lesson they learnt about the importance of good natural lighting and location when photographing portraits. The Multimedia team took photographs of each other for another ABC Open Project called ‘I am a believer’. Some of the locations were a bit dark so they used a light reflector to brighten up the photo. Before they took the photographs they interviewed each other to gather information on each other’s beliefs so that they could write up a story to go with their portraits.
The art management training and professional development is funded by the Tim Fairfax Family Foundation.
