Waltja was successful in securing funds for a community development project in Mount Liebig and Papunya communities. The project involves a series of art workshops to transfer knowledge and skills from local Elder Aboriginal artists to young people who are not currently engaged in other education or employment initiatives. The project aims to provide young people with the opportunity to learn about running small business enterprises and careers in the Arts industry.
The Waltja Reconnect Team, in conjunction with Papunya and Mout Liebig Art Centres and Youth teams are working together with community support workers and families to deliver this program. If you are a young person aged between 12-25 years and would like to be involved, or if you are an artist or other community member that would like to help out, you can contact Katie Allen at the Waltja office (08) 8953 4488 or the local Art Centres.
This project is funded by the Youth Development and Support Program that is managed by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations.
