Governance
"The Waltja Way"

Waltja is an Aboriginal Corporation, owned and run by the women of remote Central Australian communities.

Each Director represents her community and brings local knowledge and leadership to Waltja’s Board. The Board meets several times a year, making decisions together with staff based in Alice Springs.

“Waltja learns what is happening in the community from the Directors… We work together—Anangu/Yapa and Kardiya, workers and Directors and community. That’s why we called the organisation Waltja – family.” — Irene Nangala, former Chairperson

Waltja was proud to win the Reconciliation Australia Indigenous Governance Award in 2014 for keeping culture strong in governance.
