Waltja supports communities through NDIS and Aged Care services, ensuring everyone can access the care they need, regardless of location. Our Remote Connectors bridge gaps between communities and these vital services, providing personalised support and guidance.
The Remote Community Connector (RCC) Program is part of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and aims to assist Australians in remote and isolated communities in navigating NDIS processes and requirements. RCC workers provide essential support to participants, carers, and families by offering information about accessing the NDIS and acting as a bridge between participants, the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), and service providers.
Remote Community Connector Program (RCC) is part of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) aimed at assisting Australian in remote and isolated communities to better understand and navigate the NDIS processes and requirements.
In 2023, our NDIS team conducted RCC training sessions in the remote communities of Laramba and Yuelamu, participated by the local RCC workers from various communities across the Central Desert Region, together with the NDIS Regional Connector Team. In February 2024, additional training took place at the Waltja headquarters, with new RCC trainees from Haast Bluff, Mount Liebig and Kintore participating. These training sessions aim to improve participants' understanding of the NDIS scheme, its structure, funded supports, and how to effectively communicate this information to community members in need.
We extend our gratitude to the NDIA for renewing our contract through 2025. With NDIA funding, the Waltja NDIS Team has successfully employed 16 RCC workers across all 11 communities. Among these staff members, 2 are newly hired and will complete their training in November 2024.
The team has achieved significant milestones, including successfully supporting a young participant through the CDP program for employment. This young RCC worker is now actively engaged in the program, assisting the NDIA during visits, providing interpretation services, and conducting welfare checks for participants in his community.
Another RCC worker supported by Waltja NDIS team has recently processed and renewed his driver’s license after receiving medical clearance, enabling him to connect with potential and existing participants independently. As a proud disability participant himself, he confidently navigates his community while fulfilling his responsibilities.
